**
Stephanie McDee is best known for her runaway smash "Call The
Police" from back in 2002. Her CD "Living The Blues" is long
out-of-print and it's successor "No Strings Attached (often
listed as "Southern Soul Queen") gave diminishing returns so she
stepped back from the SS scene. Prior to her return she recorded a
Gospel album, "No Compromise", as Chief Apostle Stephanie A.
Saunders in 2008. In 2012 she self-released "Return Of The
Southern Soul Queen", which featured remixes of her two hits
("Monkey Talk", "Call The Police") and a "Greatest Hits"
project but "Taking Care Of Business" was the better
distributed collection. McDee has a weathered voice that works
better on uptempo numbers (her forceful delivery makes her like a
female Pokey Bear). Dancers like "Annie Mae's Cafe" (not the Little
Milton classic), a swing out song, "It's A Party At The Trail Ride"
and "Southern Soul Party" are somewhat odd production-wise.
Electronica mixed with Southern Soul keyboard tracks? It really
keeps this album from sounding as big as it clearly intends to. My
pick is "I Took Another Woman's Problem" where she cheated with a
trouble man only to find out he actually did the other woman a
favor!
