FRANK LUCAS

In 1977 Frank Lucas hit paydirt with "Good Thing Man", which reached #9 on Billboard's Hot R&B Songs chart (#92 Pop) and spent 28 weeks on the chart. "Don't Put Out The Fire" from 1978 snuck in at #85 R&B. Despite these achievements Lucas remains an obscure artist. In 2004 Ronnie Perkins' Ryan Records released the full length "Destination Unknown" on Lucas. In 2009 (released in 2008) he scored a Southern Soul hit with "The Man With The Singing Ding-A-Ling", on which Lucas borrowed the backing track of Betty Wright's immortal "Tonight's The Night" and added his gleefully ridiculous lyrics. The catchiness of this track is undeniable and it has gone on to become a cult classic.
